The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), India’s largest hospitality company, has announced its entry into Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, with the signing of a Ginger hotel. The project marks a greenfield development for the brand in the port city.
Commenting on the expansion, Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development, IHCL, said that Tuticorin is fast emerging as an important economic hub in South India, driven by a strong industrial base and fresh investments. She noted that mega projects in the automobile and energy sectors are generating sustained long-stay demand, making the city well-suited for Ginger’s value-led offering. She also expressed delight in partnering with R. Gajendran on the project.
The 100-key Ginger Tuticorin will be strategically located along the Tirunelveli–Tuticorin highway, providing easy access to key industrial and commercial districts. The hotel will feature Ginger’s signature Qmin restaurant, a bar for social interactions, flexible meeting spaces for business travellers, and a modern fitness centre.
R. Gajendran, promoter of Thangam Real Estate & Thangam Plots & Farms Pvt. Ltd., said the partnership with IHCL will introduce contemporary hospitality to meet the needs of Tuticorin’s growing business community.
Also known as Thoothukudi, Tuticorin is a major port city on Tamil Nadu’s Coromandel Coast, known for maritime trade, salt production and fishing, while increasingly emerging as an industrial and manufacturing centre.
With this addition, IHCL’s portfolio in Tamil Nadu will expand to 28 hotels, including 10 under development.
