Industry Leaders Discuss Operational Risks and Future-Ready Hospitality Solutions
The 7th edition of the HRAWI Conclave and Awards for Empowering Hospitality concluded successfully in Surat, bringing together hospitality leaders, restaurateurs, hotel owners and policymakers for discussions around some of the sector’s most pressing operational challenges. Hosted by the Hotel And Restaurant Association (Western India) at Regenta – The World, the conclave focused on food adulteration, fire safety practices and the growing adoption of alternative fuel solutions in hospitality operations.
The event witnessed participation from senior government officials and industry stakeholders, including representatives from food safety, fire safety and hospitality operations, reflecting the increasing focus on operational accountability and sustainability within the sector.
Food Adulteration Concerns Highlighted
One of the key discussions centred around adulteration in dairy products and raw materials used across restaurants and hotels. Industry experts stressed the importance of transparency in sourcing and the need for stricter quality checks, particularly around products such as analogue paneer, which is often used as a lower-cost substitute for traditional paneer.
The panel underlined that food quality and authenticity are becoming increasingly important for consumer trust, with restaurants expected to ensure clear disclosure, ethical sourcing and adherence to food safety standards.
Fire Safety Beyond Compliance
Another major focus area was fire prevention through better maintenance and housekeeping practices. Experts pointed out that many fire incidents in hospitality establishments continue to result from poor maintenance, grease accumulation, faulty electrical systems and operational negligence.
The discussion reinforced that fire safety must move beyond regulatory compliance and become part of day-to-day operational culture within hotels and restaurants. Regular equipment servicing, staff training and proper housekeeping were identified as critical measures to reduce operational risks.
Alternative Fuels and Induction Cooking Gain Attention
Sustainability and energy efficiency also emerged as strong themes during the conclave, particularly through discussions around induction cooking as an alternative to conventional fuels like LPG and PNG.
Industry experts highlighted that induction-based systems offer safer, cleaner and more energy-efficient kitchen operations while also helping reduce fire hazards. While acknowledging higher upfront investments, the panel suggested hybrid kitchen models combining induction and gas could become a practical transition path for the hospitality sector.
Surat’s Tourism Potential Discussed
The conclave also explored the tourism potential of the Surat Economic Region, with presentations focusing on developing business-led leisure tourism, cultural circuits and experiential travel opportunities aligned with broader economic development plans.
The event concluded with the HRAWI Awards ceremony recognising hospitality professionals and businesses across Surat and South Gujarat for excellence in operations, innovation and service.
