Karnataka’s hospitality industry has raised concerns over a sharp rise in operating costs following the state government’s revised minimum wage implementation. The Karnataka State Hotels Association stated that the nearly 60% increase in wages could force restaurants and hotels to significantly increase menu prices across the state.
Association president G K Shetty said staple dishes such as Idli and Masala Dosa may witness steep price revisions, while vegetarian meals and biryani prices could also rise considerably. The industry noted that escalating LPG prices, higher power tariffs, garbage cess, and rising grocery costs are already putting pressure on small and family-run establishments.
The association has urged the Karnataka government to reconsider the wage implementation structure for the hospitality sector, highlighting that hotels already provide benefits such as food, accommodation, uniforms, and other employee welfare support.
