Hyderabad’s food safety authorities have uncovered widespread hygiene and food safety violations across five restaurants in Kondapur, Gachibowli and Madinaguda, raising fresh concerns over compliance standards in the city’s foodservice sector.
During inspections conducted on July 4, food safety teams from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) found stale and spoiled food, cockroach infestations, rat droppings, mould-contaminated vegetables, excessive reuse of cooking oil and multiple sanitation lapses.
At Wah Mandi in Kondapur, inspectors seized stale cooked mandi, boiled eggs and chicken wings. Officials also found raw and cooked meat stored together, inadequate segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, poor utensil sanitisation practices, and damaged walls and ceilings in food preparation areas.
Mandi King in Gachibowli was found reusing cooking oil continuously for four days. The inspection also revealed uncovered raw and cooked meat, greasy exhaust systems, fly infestation, rusted fixtures and unhygienic food preparation practices.
At Firewater Fine Dining Bar, authorities reported cockroach infestation, rat droppings, rust inside freezers, improperly stored raw chicken and open dustbins within the kitchen.
Similar violations were observed at Am Aha Kitchen and Bar in Madinaguda, where cockroaches, rat droppings, rusted refrigeration equipment and improper food storage practices were detected.
Meanwhile, Kake Di Hatti in Madinaguda was found storing prepared food without labels, keeping boiled vegetables uncovered on the floor and using unclean storage crates. Inspectors also discarded mould-infested cooked cauliflower and flagged stagnant water, food waste and poor sanitation around drainage areas.
The latest enforcement drive comes amid intensified food safety monitoring across Hyderabad, with authorities continuing surprise inspections to improve hygiene standards and ensure compliance with food safety regulations across the hospitality sector.
