Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has expanded its heritage hospitality portfolio with the signing of Tree of Life Kanadukathan in Chettinad, Tamil Nadu. The project involves the adaptive reuse of an existing heritage-style Chettiar mansion, reinforcing the company’s focus on restoring culturally significant properties for hospitality use.
The 20-key brownfield development will be located in Kanadukathan, a town renowned for its distinctive Chettinad architecture and historic mansions. The project will retain the property’s regional architectural character while introducing hospitality infrastructure, including an all-day dining restaurant, lounge, swimming pool, spa and fitness centre.
Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development, IHCL, said the signing strengthens the company’s presence in an emerging heritage destination while extending the experience-led positioning of the Tree of Life brand. She added that the project reflects IHCL’s continued partnership with the AMPA Group.
The hotel is being developed in collaboration with AMPA Group, with the restoration aimed at preserving the architectural identity of a traditional Chettiar residence while supporting the growth of heritage tourism in the region.
Kanadukathan is recognised for its palatial Chettiar homes, traditional craftsmanship and cultural festivals, including the Chettinad Heritage Festival, making it an increasingly prominent destination for experiential and heritage tourism.
With this signing, IHCL’s portfolio in Tamil Nadu increases to 33 hotels, including 14 properties under development, further strengthening its presence across the state.
