Vietnam-based conglomerate Vingroup is set to expand its India presence beyond electric mobility, smart urban development, and renewable energy, with plans to enter the country’s tourism and leisure infrastructure space. The group is exploring opportunities to develop amusement parks and resort destinations in India, with Tamil Nadu emerging as a key focus state.
The development comes a year after Vingroup’s electric vehicle arm VinFast commissioned its first overseas manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi (Tuticorin), Tamil Nadu. On Monday, Pham Sanh Chau, CEO, VinFast Asia, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state government’s investment promotion agency, during the Tamil Nadu Global Tourism Summit 2026 held in Mamallapuram near Chennai.
Confirming the plans, Chau said discussions are currently underway to evaluate potential locations and investment structures.
Vingroup’s hospitality and entertainment arm Vinpearl, along with its theme park brand VinWonders, operates a portfolio of 47 facilities globally, including 35 hotels and resorts, four amusement parks, two wildlife safaris, four golf courses, and two premium food and beverage centres, primarily across Vietnam. The group also operates a golf course in Australia.
According to sources in the Tamil Nadu industries department, Vingroup is evaluating two to three locations, including Thoothukudi, for the proposed projects. The cumulative investment from Vinpearl and VinWonders is expected to exceed ₹1,000 crore, a senior state government official said.
The move follows Vingroup’s MoU with the Telangana government signed two months ago for a proposed $3 billion investment spanning smart urban development, electric mobility, healthcare, education, tourism, renewable energy, and charging infrastructure, underscoring the group’s long-term commitment to India.
