The New Zealand High Commission concluded a vibrant week of cultural diplomacy in Delhi with an exclusive pop-up led by renowned chef Sid Sahrawat at CAARA at Ogaan. The event highlighted the shared culinary heritage of India and New Zealand, connecting diplomats, hospitality experts, and food enthusiasts through a unique gastronomic experience.
Part of New Zealand’s Cultural Diplomacy International Programme (CDIP), the initiative fosters stronger ties with India through artistic exchanges. Chef Sahrawat, known for his acclaimed Auckland restaurants—Cassia, Sid at The French Café, and KOL—crafted a menu blending Indian flavors with New Zealand’s premium ingredients.
Signature dishes included Hawkes Bay Lamb Chops with Spiced Cream Cheese and Trifle of Kiwifruit and Mango, alongside bespoke cocktails. Chef Sahrawat also engaged in collaborations with chef Manish Mehrotra and hosted a Chef’s Table at CAARA, promoting creative exchanges between the two nations.
New Zealand’s High Commissioner Patrick Rata emphasized food as a bridge for deeper connections, while Chef Sahrawat celebrated the opportunity to blend his heritage with New Zealand’s culinary innovations. The event also honored the contributions of the Indian diaspora in New Zealand, showcasing how food and culture unite nations.
