According to TechCrunch, Airbnb, which connects travelers with places to stay, announced that it was laying off around a quarter of its workforce. The company cited revenue declines and a need to curtail costs in a memo that TechCrunch viewed. In the note, written by Airbnb CEO and co-founder Brian Chesky, the company said that 1,900 employees will be laid off, or 25.3% of its 7,500 workers. Over 160,000 expatriates have expressed their interest to return home to Kerala, hours after the state government introduced a web tool to assess the numbers, reports Nidheesh MK in Mint. According to Business Standard, Companies selling aerated beverages, ice-creams and juices have urged the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to clarify to State government officials that chilled products are safe for consumption, as the country grapples with the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the Hindu, OYO on Wednesday asked some of its staff in India to go on leave with limited benefits from May 4 for four months, and also asked all employees in the country to accept a cut in their fixed salaries by 25 per cent due to the impact of the COVID-19 on the hospitality industry. As per reports, Oyo has furnished fake no-objection certificates (NOCs) for close to 70 hotels/properties to online travel agency (OTA) Booking.com, according to a report in The Economic Times. The NOCs were provided to change ownership of the properties listed with Booking.com from rival Treebo to Oyo, sources – including hotel owners, told the paper.
