Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres concerts in Ahmedabad not only captivated over 222,000 fans but also sparked a hospitality surge, reshaping the city into a prime destination for live entertainment tourism. A report by EY-Parthenon and BookMyShow Live highlights the economic ripple effects, with hotels being key beneficiaries of this mega-event.
With 86% of attendees traveling to Ahmedabad, the demand for accommodations soared, driving hotel occupancy rates to unprecedented levels. Room prices, typically ₹15,000 during peak seasons, skyrocketed to ₹50,000–₹90,000 within 48 hours of the concert announcement. This surge underscores how strategically hosted live events can significantly impact the hospitality industry.
“Half of the attendees extended their stay beyond the concert, contributing additional revenue to the hospitality sector,” noted the report. Local hotels, restaurants, and transport providers experienced a boom, as visitors spent generously on services. The event generated an estimated ₹641 crore in economic impact, with ₹392 crore directly benefiting Ahmedabad.
For hoteliers, such events provide not just short-term gains but a long-term boost to the city’s reputation as a global cultural hub. With India’s concert economy growing at 19% CAGR, the hospitality sector is set to thrive alongside these transformative live events.
