The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has urged citizens to actively report food safety and hygiene violations at restaurants and other food establishments through the Food Safety Connect mobile application developed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
The civic body has asked the public to report issues such as unhygienic kitchens, unsafe food, poor food handling practices, and other violations by uploading photographs and relevant details through the app. According to GHMC, the initiative aims to enable authorities to take timely enforcement action against non-compliantfood businesses.
Officials said greater public participation can play a vital role in strengthening food safety surveillance, preventing foodborne illnesses, and improving hygiene standards across food establishments. They added that citizen reporting will help regulatory authorities identify violations more quickly and ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
The appeal comes amid increased focus on food hygiene and regulatory enforcement across several states, with authorities intensifying inspections of restaurants, hotels, and food businesses to ensure adherence to the Food Safety and Standards Act.
GHMC has encouraged consumers to use the FSSAI platform to support efforts towards creating a safer and more hygienic food ecosystem in the city.
