IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of Holiday Inn Mathura, marking a strategic expansion into one of India’s key spiritual tourism markets amid rising demand for branded hospitality in pilgrimage destinations.
The 115-key hotel, developed in partnership with Embrassio Hotels & Resorts Private Limited of the Vrindara Group, is scheduled to open in early 2030. The project strengthens IHG’s long-term growth strategy in India, where demand-led and culturally significant destinations are emerging as key drivers of hospitality expansion.
Mathura, one of India’s oldest and most important religious centres, continues to witness steady inflow of domestic pilgrims and cultural tourists. The new Holiday Inn property is positioned to serve this growing visitor base with internationally standardised accommodation and facilities.
The hotel will feature 115 rooms and suites along with multiple dining options including an all-day dining restaurant, bar and lobby lounge. It will also include five meeting and event spaces, a ballroom, fitness centre and swimming pool, catering to both leisure and group travel segments.
IHG highlighted that the Holiday Inn brand is gaining strong traction in India, supported by a pipeline of over 40 properties. The company currently operates 52 hotels across six brands in the country and has 98 more in development over the next three to five years.
Industry observers note that the move reflects a broader trend of global hotel chains deepening their presence in spiritual and tier-II destinations, where infrastructure upgrades and rising pilgrim volumes are driving sustained hospitality demand.
The company said the signing aligns with its strategy of bringing globally recognised brands to high-growth markets while addressing the increasing need for reliable, branded accommodation in India’s religious tourism corridors.
