Kantala Spirits has launched Gracia Século XVI, a premium cashew feni inspired by Goa’s 16th-century heritage and traditional distillation culture, as the company looks to position feni as a modern premium craft spirit for new-age consumers.
Named after the century in which cashew trees were introduced to Goa by the Portuguese, Gracia Século XVI pays tribute to the origins of cashew feni — a spirit deeply embedded in Goan culture and community life. The launch reflects growing interest in regional Indian spirits and heritage-led premium alcobev experiences.
Crafted in Goa using traditional small-batch distillation techniques, the feni is made from cashew apples sourced from Pernem in North Goa, a region known for high-quality cashew cultivation. The spirit is double-distilled in copper pot stills and aged in earthenware and traditional glass garrafaos, a process aimed at preserving authenticity while delivering a smoother contemporary drinking experience.
Founder-Director Suzann Homan said the brand was inspired by childhood memories of Goan summers, local bhattis and the cultural rituals surrounding feni production. She described the launch as an attempt to preserve and reinterpret Goa’s heritage for a younger audience.
The product is packaged in a tinted blue bottle designed to protect the spirit from UV exposure while drawing inspiration from traditional Goan glass bottles. With tropical fruit notes, earthy undertones and a smooth finish, the company says the spirit is designed for both sipping and cocktail consumption.
Industry observers note that the launch comes amid increasing consumer demand for artisanal Indian spirits, regional craft beverages and premium storytelling-led alcobev brands.
Gracia Século XVI is currently available across select outlets in Goa and will gradually expand into metro markets across India. The 750 ml bottle is priced at ₹1,950 with an ABV of 42.8%.
