Leading national hotel chains are poised to inject over INR10,000 crore into Siliguri and the wider north Bengal regionover the coming years, signalling one of the area’s largest hospitality-driven investment waves to date. The region has already attracted INR4,000 crore in MSME investments in the past two years, according to Dilip Dugar, chairman of the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA), who shared the update after a review meeting with major trade bodies on Friday.
Dugar said 20 prominent hotel brands are currently setting up or preparing to begin construction of new properties in Siliguri. “The first phase alone will see INR5,000 crore in investment, with an equivalent second phase to follow,” he noted. The hospitality surge is expected to elevate Siliguri’s standing as the gateway to north Bengal and the Northeast, boosting both business and leisure tourism.
Beyond hospitality, the region is also emerging as a healthcare hub. Several leading hospital chains have initiated large-scale projects, drawn by Siliguri’s strategic location and expanding population.
Investment momentum is strong across sectors: MSME proposals worth over INR4,000 crore in the last two years are projected to generate more than 10,000 jobs.
At the review meeting — attended by CII, ICC, Siliguri Merchants Association, CREDAI, and NB Tea Park Association — SJDA urged faster execution of pending projects. Dugar highlighted that while 117 plots at NB Tea Park near New Jalpaiguri station have been allotted, none of the proposed units are operational yet, and called on stakeholders to expedite development.
