The tourism and hospitality industry has welcomed the nomination of K.B. Kachru, President, HAI and Chairman, South Asia, Radisson Hotel Group, and Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Chairman and Managing Director, HRH Group of Hotels, to the Board of Governors of the National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT).
NCHMCT is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Kachru and Mewar have been nominated as industry experts from the hotel and catering sector.
The appointments come at a time when the Indian hospitality sector is expanding across markets and formats, increasing the demand for skilled and industry-ready talent. The nominations are expected to strengthen the industry’s role in shaping hospitality education and help bridge the gap between academic curricula and evolving workplace requirements.
Speaking on his nomination, Kachru said, “I am honoured to be nominated as a member of the Board of Governors of NCHMCT. India’s hospitality sector is entering a defining phase of growth, and the demand for skilled, industry-ready talent has never been greater.”
He added that closer collaboration between industry and government would be critical to align curricula with changing industry needs, expand practical exposure and create clearer pathways for young people entering hospitality.
At HAI, several skilling initiatives have been launched to address the sector’s talent gap. Its Industry Mentoring Programme provides structured mentorship focused on leadership development and career progression. In April this year, HAI also signed an MoU with The LaLiT Suri Hospitality School to establish the ‘Image & Life Skills Lab’, a specialised 10-day Professional Presence & Communication Development Programme for hospitality professionals and aspirants.
The inclusion of Kachru and Mewar is expected to bring greater industry representation to NCHMCT’s governance and curriculum discussions, with a focus on ensuring hospitality education remains aligned with the operational and talent requirements of hotels, restaurants and catering businesses.
