Uttar Pradesh’s first State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM) is set to be ready within the next two months, marking a milestone in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision to strengthen the state’s hospitality and tourism sector.
According to tourism deputy director Rajendra Prasad Yadav, the project’s first phase has achieved 95% completion and is expected to wrap up by the end of September. The formal inauguration could follow soon after.
The institute, located opposite the GIDA office in Gorakhpur, will begin offering degree and diploma courses in hotel, tourism, and hospitality management from the next academic session. Construction for the Rs 48.39 crore first phase began in September 2023, with Rs 38.42 crore already utilized. This phase includes two academic blocks with classrooms, administrative offices, training kitchens, common halls, underground parking, and fire safety systems — all designed to meet global hospitality training standards.
The second phase, launched in May 2025 with an outlay of Rs 46.81 crore, will add residential facilities, including a five-storey boys’ hostel with 128 rooms and a girls’ hostel with 84 rooms. This stage is expected to be completed by 2027.
Officials said the SIHM will serve as a hub for grooming skilled professionals in hospitality, catering to the state’s expanding tourism and hotel industry. It is also expected to open up significant employment opportunities for youth in the Purvanchal region, enhancing the local economy and positioning Gorakhpur as an emerging center for hospitality education.
