In a significant step toward sustainability, Ascott India has partnered with Second Spin, an Enviu venture focused on reducing textile waste from institutions like hotels, hospitals, and spas. This collaboration aims to transform end-of-use hotel linens into recycled materials, supporting a circular economy.
Second Spin, formerly Retex, has introduced an innovative supply chain that collects, sorts, and upcycles discarded linens into products like paper, yarns, and fibers. With India generating over 220 tonnes of textile waste daily, the initiative is vital to tackling the country’s environmental challenges.
The partnership began with seven Ascott India properties, including Citadines OMR Chennai, which has already diverted 2 tonnes of textiles from landfills. “This initiative embeds sustainability into our operations, creating a culture of responsibility our guests and staff value,” said Citadines OMR’s General Manager, Prashanth Rajkumar.
Second Spin has diverted 45,000 kg of hotel linens, reinforcing its mission to build a scalable, circular textile economy. “This partnership aligns perfectly with Ascott’s commitment to waste reduction and ESG goals,” added Prasanna Raghavan, Head of Finance & Sustainability, Ascott India.
This collaboration highlights the hospitality sector’s growing dedication to environmental responsibility.
