The Ayodhya Municipal Corporation has approved a motion to prohibit the sale of liquor and meat along the 14-kilometer Ram Path, which links Ayodhya and Faizabad. This ban also extends to advertisements for products such as paan, gutkha, bidi, cigarettes, and men’s and women’s undergarments.
Although Ayodhya town itself does not permit the sale of liquor or meat, these items are openly sold on the 10-kilometer stretch of Ram Path outside the city. The ban aims to eliminate such practices entirely along this sacred route.
Ayodhya Mayor Girish Pati Tripathi emphasized that the move seeks to uphold the city’s religious integrity. “Ram Path bears the name of Lord Rama, and Ayodhya is a pious city. This decision will preserve its spiritual essence,” he stated.
Officials have been instructed to implement the ban strictly, ensuring the area reflects the sanctity of its religious and cultural heritage. While welcomed by some, the ban has raised concerns about its impact on local businesses.
