The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has served notices to 412 pubs, hotels, and restaurants for not complying with smoking zone regulations under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).
As per COTPA rules, all hospitality venues with a seating capacity of over 30 must have designated smoking areas. BBMP officials said most of the cited establishments had failed to meet this requirement.
The civic body has given a 7-day deadline for compliance, after which penalties may be imposed. The action is part of a broader crackdown on smoking-related violations in public spaces.
