Authorities are planning to introduce a pod-style hotel at Anand Vihar Interchange Station, one of Delhi’s busiest transport hubs, to provide short-stay accommodation for travellers facing long layovers, late-night arrivals, or early-morning departures. The facility will be part of a larger commercial development within the Anand Vihar Namo Bharat interchange, which integrates regional rapid rail services with the Delhi Metro, long-distance trains, and interstate buses. The initiative aims to transform the station from a mere transit point into a space that caters to the practical needs of passengers who often spend several hours—or even overnight—between connections.
Why Anand Vihar Matters
Anand Vihar handles some of the highest passenger footfall in the capital, bringing together multiple transport systems at a single location. The complex includes two major bus terminals, a railway station for long-distance trains, and metro lines connecting various parts of Delhi. With the addition of the Namo Bharat regional rapid rail service, the interchange has become even more crowded, especially with commuters travelling between Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.
This level of connectivity often results in extended waiting times. Designed for short stays, the pods are likely to be available on an hourly or limited-duration basis, making them ideal for transit travellers rather than long-term guests.

Part of a Larger Station Upgrade
The pod hotel will be one element of a broader commercial makeover of the Anand Vihar interchange. Plans also include food and beverage outlets, retail spaces, and offices, spread across roughly 4,000 square metres on multiple levels of the station complex. The project is being overseen by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which operates the Namo Bharat RRTS network. Alongside improving passenger amenities, NCRTC aims to generate non-ticket revenue by leasing station space for commercial use.
A Growing Trend in Transit Accommodation
Delhi has already seen early adoption of pod hotels in transit areas, including a similar facility at New Delhi Metro Station that caters to railway and airport commuters. Internationally, pod hotels are common at airports, railway stations, and business districts. While still relatively new in India, transport hubs are increasingly viewed as ideal locations for this compact accommodation format.
