Dining out and ordering food online in India could soon become more expensive, with restaurant and food delivery prices expected to rise by 5–10 per cent from next week due to increasing fuel costs.
Industry executives said the recent hike in petrol and diesel prices has significantly raised transportation, logistics and delivery expenses, putting pressure on restaurants and food service operators. As fuel and LPG costs form a major part of operating expenses, many businesses are preparing to pass on a portion of the additional burden to customers.
The latest fuel price increase follows a broader surge in global crude oil prices linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia. India recently raised petrol and diesel prices by up to ₹3 per litre, marking the first major retail fuel hike in several years.
Experts believe the impact will extend beyond the restaurant industry, affecting transportation, delivery services and household expenses across sectors. Economists have also warned that rising fuel costs may contribute to higher retail inflation in the coming months.
