The long-standing uncertainty over the management of the iconic Hotel Wildflower Hall near Mashobra has been resolved, with the Himachal Pradesh government announcing plans to invite global bids from leading international hotel chains to operate the seven-star heritage property.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday. The cabinet concluded that only a reputed global hospitality brand could maintain the high standards of the property, nestled amidst dense deodar forests near Shimla.
Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan said a Government of India undertaking has been tasked with preparing and inviting global tenders. “The aim is to ensure participation by only competent and renowned hotel chains, guaranteeing world-class management and enhanced revenue for the state,” he added.
Since regaining ownership, the state has already earned INR 425 crore in revenue. The property is currently operated interim by the Oberoi Group, pending the selection of a new operator through the global bidding process.
The state regained full control on March 31, 2025, following a two-decade legal battle with East India Hotels Ltd (EIHL), after the Supreme Court upheld earlier rulings in favour of Himachal Pradesh.
The dispute originated in 2002 when the government terminated its agreement with EIHL over alleged contract violations. The latest cabinet decision aims to secure both prestige and profitability, ensuring Wildflower Hall remains one of India’s premier heritage resorts.
