Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), India’s largest hospitality company, has announced the opening of Taj Bush Lodge, Greater Kruger South Africa, marking the debut of the Taj brand in one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations.
Located within the renowned Balule Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger ecosystem and home to the iconic Big Five, the intimate six-key luxury lodge blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings while delivering the signature hospitality experiences associated with the Taj brand.
Commenting on the launch, Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director & CEO, IHCL, said, “As Taj enters Greater Kruger with the first of three luxury wilderness lodges, it brings a legacy of over a century of delivering exceptional destination-led experiences. The opening of Taj Bush Lodge strengthens our presence in South Africa and offers travellers an opportunity to combine the scenic beauty of Cape Town with the extraordinary wildlife experiences of Kruger National Park.”
Designed to reflect the landscape and cultural heritage of the region, the lodge features traditional thatched roofs, warm wooden interiors, and earthy design elements inspired by the African wilderness. Guests can enjoy home-style cuisine that combines international influences with local flavours, prepared using fresh seasonal ingredients.
The property also houses J Wellness Circle, Taj’s signature wellness offering, where guests can indulge in holistic therapies and rejuvenation experiences amidst the tranquillity of the bush.
Beyond accommodation, Taj Bush Lodge offers a range of immersive experiences including guided game drives, bush breakfasts, traditional South African braais under the stars, and full-day safaris in Kruger National Park. Adventure seekers can also explore activities such as quad biking through the Maseke Reserve, boat cruises on the Olifants River and Blyde Canyon, and excursions along the scenic Panorama Route.
Guests can further engage with local conservation and wildlife initiatives through visits to attractions such as the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and the famous Jessica the Hippo sanctuary.
Mark Wernich, Cluster General Manager Operations South Africa and General Manager, Taj Cape Town, said the opening marks the beginning of a larger expansion strategy within the Kruger region.
“Our entry into Kruger National Park allows travellers to experience Taj’s world-class hospitality integrated with a sustainable eco-tourism model. This will be complemented by two additional Taj lodges scheduled to open in the coming months,” he said.
Spanning nearly two million hectares, Kruger National Park is among Africa’s largest and most renowned wildlife reserves, attracting travellers from around the world with its rich biodiversity, conservation efforts, and exceptional opportunities to witness the Big Five in their natural habitat.
The opening of Taj Bush Lodge further strengthens IHCL’s international footprint while reinforcing its focus on delivering luxury experiences rooted in destination, culture, and sustainability.
