City authorities have intensified inspections of hotels suspected of violating municipal building regulations. According to the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, several establishments are allegedly operating without proper permissions or deviating from approved building plans, raising safety and compliance concerns.
The inspections, conducted by the Building Branch of the municipal body, aim to identify discrepancies in construction, including unauthorized extensions, improper fire safety measures, and non-adherence to zoning regulations. Officials have indicated that some hotels, particularly in high-traffic areas, have significantly altered their structures without prior approval, compromising public safety and traffic flow.
“We have identified several hotels with irregularities in their building plans. Notices have been issued to these establishments, and they will face legal action if the violations are not addressed,” said a senior municipal official.
This crackdown follows complaints from residents and civic groups about the unchecked growth of commercial properties in residential areas, leading to overcrowding and inadequate infrastructure. The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has also sought reports from the fire department to ensure safety standards are being met.
Hotel owners have been given a deadline to comply with regulations or face penalties, including fines and potential closure. The initiative aims to streamline urban development and uphold public safety standards in the city.
