A delegation from Bunts Sangha Mumbai and the All India Hotel & Restaurant Association (AHAR) met with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at his official residence in Walkeshwar on Saturday. The group raised concerns over recent remarks by a legislator that had sparked anger and unease among hoteliers and South Indian business owners.
The delegation urged immediate government action, warning that the incident had harmed the confidence and reputation of the hospitality community. In response, Shinde expressed empathy, confirming that the state government promptly condemned the legislator’s statement and demanded his resignation. He also ensured the affected canteen reopened swiftly and issued clear directives to prevent similar incidents.
To support the community, Shinde personally contacted former MP Gopal Shetty and advised against launching a signature campaign, assuring the delegation that constructive actions were already underway. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving communal harmony and safeguarding business interests.
Community leaders present—such as Milind Deora, Praveen Bhoja Shetty, and Sudhakar Shetty—welcomed the Deputy CM’s assurances and acknowledged his prompt and proactive approach. Deora will serve as liaison for Mumbai’s Bunts and South Indian residents, enhancing dialogue with the administration.
The delegation praised the government’s response and pledged to collaborate further to ensure the hospitality industry and the South Indian community continue to receive adequate protection and recognition in the region.
