Panjab University has initiated open counselling for vacant seats in its hospitality and tourism programmes for the 2026–27 academic session, after two rounds of admissions left multiple positions unfilled at the University Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management (UIHTM).
According to the institute, 22 undergraduate seats remain vacant, including 19 seats in the Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT) programme and 3 seats in the Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management (BTTM) programme.
The move reflects ongoing admission gaps in hospitality education programmes despite steady industry demand for trained talent across hotels, travel companies and allied service sectors.
Admissions will be conducted strictly on a merit-based open counselling process, with eligibility set at a minimum of 50% marks in Class XII along with English as a compulsory subject. Candidates are required to submit applications through the UIHTM website and complete document verification at the institute.
As per the notified schedule, the last date for submission of applications is July 8 (4 pm), followed by the display of the merit list on July 10, and physical counselling on July 14.
University authorities have urged eligible candidates to adhere to deadlines to ensure timely completion of the admission process.
The development highlights both continued interest and structural challenges in filling hospitality education seats, even as the sector expands with rising demand across hotel operations, tourism management and allied service industries.
