MThe Park Hotels group is set to begin construction of a new luxury property in Kolkata in 2026, with commissioning targeted for March 2029. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation recently approved the project, which will span 7,00,000 sq. ft. and feature both hotel and residential components.
Karan Paul, Non-Executive Director of Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels, said Kolkata remains underserved in premium hospitality infrastructure, noting the iconic Park Street hotel has maintained 100% occupancy for seven consecutive years. Currently, the city has around 5,100 branded hotel rooms—far fewer than Delhi and Mumbai’s roughly 15,000 each—indicating strong demand for high-end accommodation.
The new development, situated on EM Bypass, will include 250 rooms, 70–100 serviced apartments, nightclubs, multiple restaurants, banquet spaces, a rooftop bar and pool, and even an air-taxi landing facility. Singapore-based Gensler has been appointed as the project architect.
Managing Director Vijay Dewan confirmed that over INR500 crore will be invested, generating significant employment. The group acquired the EM Bypass plot in 2007 but waited for the right market conditions. “Kolkata is now strong enough for us to expand our luxury inventory,” Dewan said.
The project will mark Kolkata’s second Park-branded luxury hotel, alongside the 1967 Park Street flagship. Nationwide, the group plans rapid expansion—from 36 hotels with 2,436 keys today to 74 hotels with 5,787 keys within five years.
