In a groundbreaking initiative, Goa has launched its first Disability-Inclusive Internship Program, led by the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities in collaboration with The St. Regis Goa Resort and Inclusion Consultant Elrin Fernandes. This program offers meaningful internships to 11 young adults with disabilities, setting a benchmark for inclusive employment in the luxury hospitality sector.
The initiative began 18 months prior to student graduation, with participants undergoing customized workshops, mock interviews, and vocational training. Families, community organizations, and schools were actively engaged to ensure smooth transitions. A gender-inclusive approach reserved 40% of slots for women, bolstered by targeted recruitment and mentoring.
The resort’s entire staff received disability sensitivity training to foster empathy and inclusivity. Speaking at the culmination ceremony, Secretary Taha Haziq emphasized the program’s alignment with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, praising its role in creating dignified employment pathways.
General Manager Satish Kumar reinforced that inclusion is central to the resort’s identity, stating, “Inclusive hospitality is better hospitality.”
