Taj to Debut in Guwahati with New Luxury Hotel
Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of a new Taj Hotels property in Guwahati, marking the debut of the iconic luxury brand in the capital of Assam.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam. The project will involve the development of a 250-key Taj hotel, combining the renovation and repositioning of an existing 150-room property along with the addition of 100 new rooms.
The announcement highlights IHCL’s strategic focus on expanding its luxury portfolio across emerging destinations in Northeast India.
IHCL Strengthens Presence in Northeast India
According to Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IHCL, the project reflects the company’s strong confidence in Assam’s growing economy and Guwahati’s increasing importance as a regional gateway.
Chhatwal stated that Guwahati has established itself as a major commercial and cultural hub in Northeast India. With rising demand from both business and leisure travellers, the introduction of the Taj brand is expected to strengthen the city’s hospitality ecosystem and support its tourism and business growth.
IHCL has been actively expanding its footprint across India with new signings and developments in high-growth destinations.
Taj Guwahati to Offer Luxury Hospitality Experience
The upcoming Taj Guwahati will be located in the heart of the city on an expanded land parcel spanning over nine acres. Designed as an urban retreat, the property aims to offer guests a luxury hospitality experience that reflects the cultural spirit and heritage of Assam.
The hotel will feature multiple amenities designed to cater to both corporate travellers and tourists visiting the region. Key offerings will include:
