ITC Hotels Limited has strengthened its presence in Bihar with the signing of Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels, Rajgir, a 107-key hotel being developed under a long-term arrangement between the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) and Kalsi Buildcon Private Limited. The agreement was announced in the presence of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Shri Samrat Choudhary and Anil Chadha, Managing Director, ITC Hotels Limited.
The signing underscores ITC Hotels’ growing focus on India’s emerging spiritual and experiential tourism destinations, as demand for heritage, wellness and pilgrimage-led travel continues to rise across the country.
Spread across 2.67 acres, the hotel is designed to blend contemporary hospitality with Rajgir’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. The property will feature 107 guest rooms and suites, an all-day dining restaurant, approximately 5,000 sq. ft. of indoor banquet space, and over 12,000 sq. ft. of landscaped outdoor lawns, targeting weddings, social events, conferences and destination gatherings.
Rajgir, one of Bihar’s most significant tourism destinations, attracts visitors for its association with Buddhism, Jainism and ancient Indian history. The city forms a key part of the state’s tourism circuit alongside Bodh Gaya, Nalanda and Patna, drawing both domestic and international travellers.
Commenting on the development, Anil Chadha, Managing Director, ITC Hotels Limited, said, “Bihar is home to some of India’s most significant cultural and spiritual destinations, and we see immense long-term potential for hospitality-led tourism in the state. The signing of Welcomhotel Rajgir reinforces our commitment to building a larger presence in Bihar. As domestic travel continues to evolve, travellers are increasingly seeking destinations that offer authentic experiences alongside branded hospitality. We look forward to this long-term association with Kalsi Buildcon Private Limited and to playing a meaningful role in elevating Bihar’s tourism vision by bringing world-class experiences to one of India’s most compelling travel destinations.”
Sumeet Singh Kalsi, Director, Kalsi Buildcon Private Limited, said, “We are delighted to collaborate with ITC Hotels Limited to introduce the Welcomhotel brand in Rajgir. With its deep historical significance and enduring appeal among visitors from across India and around the world, Rajgir presents a compelling opportunity for the development of a world-class hotel. Our vision is to create a landmark hospitality destination that reflects the essence of the region while catering to the evolving preferences of modern travellers.”
The latest signing follows ITC Hotels’ recent expansion initiatives in Bihar, including the signing of a new ITC Patnahotel and the opening of Welcomhotel Bodhgaya Hotel & Convention Centre. The developments reflect the company’s strategy of strengthening its presence in high-potential Tier-II and Tier-III destinations driven by spiritual, cultural and experiential tourism.
Industry observers note that Bihar’s tourism sector is witnessing increased investment as infrastructure improvements, enhanced connectivity and government-led tourism promotion initiatives continue to attract hospitality players seeking long-term growth opportunities.
