Guwahati to Develop INR477 Crore Convention Centre at Brahmaputra Riverfront
Guwahati is set to receive a ₹477 crore Convention Centre-cum-StateGuest House project along the scenic Brahmaputra Riverfront as part of Assam’s broader push to strengthen tourism, hospitality, and urban infrastructure in Northeast India.
The upcoming development is expected to become one of Assam’s key administrative, hospitality, and MICE tourism landmarks, combining large-scale convention facilities with premium accommodation and guest services for visiting dignitaries, government delegations, business travelers, and international guests.
Located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River, the integrated complex is designed to host international conferences, business summits, cultural programmes, exhibitions, and major state functions. Authorities believe the riverfront location will further enhance Guwahati’s positioning as a growing destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE tourism).
According to officials, the project will include modern convention halls, meeting spaces, hospitality infrastructure, and accommodation facilities aimed at meeting international standards. The development is also expected to improve Assam’s ability to host large-scale national and global events in the future.
The convention centre project forms part of broader efforts by the Assam government to modernise urban infrastructure, strengthen tourism-led development, and position Guwahati as a major economic and cultural gateway to Northeast India. Recent investments in riverfront beautification, transport infrastructure, and cultural projects have further accelerated the city’s transformation.
Officials stated that the project is expected to contribute to employment generation, hospitality sector growth, tourism expansion, and increased business activity across the region over the coming years.
