Global hospitality major Marriott International has announced plans to establish its first offshore Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India, with the facility—called the Marriott Tech Accelerator—to be set up in Hyderabad. The centre will support the company’s global operations across 141 countries and territories, focusing on technology, engineering, cybersecurity, and next-generation digital solutions.
The new centre, which marks the first GCC by a hospitality company in India, is expected to commence full-scale operations by the first quarter of 2025. According to state government officials, Marriott plans to hire around 300 professionals in the initial phase.
Drew Pinto, Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue & Technology Officer, Marriott International, said Hyderabad was chosen for its “world-class talent and strong reputation as a major IT hub.”
The decision underscores Hyderabad’s growing prominence as a GCC destination, with the city already hosting over 200 such centres across industries. The Telangana IT Minister Duddila Sridhar Babu said the state’s talent pool—comprising over one million GCC-ready professionals and 350,000 AI and chip designers—continues to attract global corporations.
Marriott’s latest move comes as Hyderabad strengthens its position in India’s tech and business ecosystem. Real estate and industry data show that Hyderabad and Bengaluru together accounted for nearly 50% of India’s total tech-sector leasing in the first half of 2025, with Hyderabad alone contributing around 21%.
The new GCC aligns with Telangana’s broader ambition to make the state a global hub for AI, data science, and IoT, with over 70 new GCCs set up in FY25.
For Marriott, the Hyderabad facility marks a key milestone in its 25-year presence in India. The company, which operates over 150 hotels across the country, plans to expand its portfolio from 29,000 rooms to more than 42,000 rooms in the coming years.
Industry experts say the Marriott Tech Accelerator signals a shift in the hospitality sector’s approach—leveraging India’s technology ecosystem not just for cost advantages but for global-scale innovation and operational resilience.
